Bowen for Horses

The Equine Muscle Release Therapy (EMRT™), which is the official Bowen for horses, is accredited with the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia (BTAA). EMRT™ is an Australian Therapy, and is now being used at International Level in a number of Countries.

The therapy works on the whole body and brain of the horse.
Unlike many other hands-on therapies, EMRT™ does not use forceful manipulation. A unique skill of the EMRT™ practitioner is: “tissue tension sense”, meaning that the practitioners are able to discern stress build-up in muscles and other soft tissue, enabling them to perform specific EMRT™ moves to assist recovery. There are frequent but essential pauses throughout the session that allows the body time to respond and begin the healing process. The practitioner will address the whole body and then target a specific problem or problems the horse is experiencing.
The technique addresses not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the fascia, nerves and internal organs. The horse’s body integrated response improves circulation and lymphatic drainage and aids in the assimilation of nutrients and elimination of toxins.

Horses are athletes they put their bodies through stress and strains, like the human athletes. Unlike humans, horses can’t tell you were the problem is. Sometimes they appear to be fine, but a trained eye or hand can pick up problems that otherwise would go unnoticed, until the problem becomes major.

Does your horse or pony suffer from any of the following symptoms?
Unexplained deterioration in performance, Unexplained resistance, Irritability, Uneven Muscle development/muscle wastage, Uneven shoe wear, dragging of hind feet, Stiffness on one rein, Intermittent or unresolved lameness, Disunited paces, Sore or cold back, Filled legs, Lymphatic or lactic acid imbalance. Then EMRT™ can help your horse or pony.

EMRT™ doesn’t replace Veterinary Treatment; it works along side Veterinary and other convention or holistic treatments.

Story of Chandos

Luciana, from Sassytreats, contacted me. Chandos the pin-up boy for the Sassy horse treats, was lame. A vet had taken Navicular x rays and prescribed an anti-inflammatory.

I worked with Chandos for the first time on 21st August 2005. My first observation was his eyes and his coat was very dull, also he was standing uncomfortably.

Chandos, moved continually away from my light touching he didn’t like to be touched near his neck, wither, shoulders, back, barrel area and flanks. Luciana informed me Chandos doesn’t like to be brushed or groomed anymore.

Luciana also informed me that Chandos had a paddock accident with his rug on a few years ago, cutting badly into his wither area.

I worked with Chandos at his pace, leaving longer waiting periods in between his treatment, and finishing when his body couldn’t take anymore. Putting him back into his paddock, without his rug on, I observed him for a while. Chandos had a big drink of water, urinated then dosed under a tree.

I saw Chandos, two weeks later. My first observation was, his eye’s were a lot brighter and a shine was starting to come through his coat, I also noticed he was standing-up a lot better.

Chandos was still moving away from my touch, but not quite as much, I did a full treatment on him, as well as adding in a few more procedures. Again I observed Chandos in his paddock, urinating then dosing.

I got a call from Luciana, telling me that Chandos was a lot happier, and was happy to be groomed, and that his coat colour had changed. But he was still lame.

I saw Chandos a week after Luciana’s call. I found Chandos to be brighter in the eyes, along with the change of colour in his coat, it was also shining. He was also standing calmly and not continually weight changing on his legs.

I did another full treatment; along with adding in a few more procedures that I felt would help to fix his problems. Chandos was still not comfortable with me touching his wither area.

I spoke to Luciana, a week later. Chandos was to have shoes put on by the farrier, then Luciana was going to ride him, taking it slowly, walk, trot, canter relaxed rein, moving forward, then shorten rein, lengthen the rein then all again bending, bending.

Luciana, emailed me after the ride. Chandos started out bobbing his head rhythmically when trotting, he was heavy on the right rein, stiff on the opposite side and not willing to take contact. Luciana pushed on, relaxed rein, moving forward, relaxed loping canter, back to trot, shorten the rein, lengthen the rein, walk, trot, slow trot all the while bending. When suddenly, as if he had a rather strong realisation, he took contact, came off the right rein, and started moving through his paces with even strides and stopped bobbing his head.

Totally sound. (Cellular memory goes very deep; it took Chandos body and brain, a little while to balance with each other, to say all is now OK.)

TaiD’Shar Takima’s Story

Takima foaled Oct 2000. Thoroughbred maiden mare.
At approximately 3 years a problem in her growth and development was very noticeable. The problem was progressing to appoint where Takima would very nearly fall on the ground with her back end, after the front had moved off without the hind legs, which just didn’t seem to be able to function. Takima’s mood was low, perhaps also in pain.

TJ contacted me, I was recommended by word of mouth. TJ informed me she was a little dubious of ‘new age’ treatments for horses. ( EMRT™ is a fairly new treatment.)

I worked with Takima, taking my time and working within what she could cope with, as well as explaining to TJ what I was doing and explaining Takima’s reactions.
I worked with Takima, over a period of 6 weeks, completing 3 treatments as well as adding in other procedures as I felt Takima, would best benefit from.

The result Takima has blossomed into a lovely little lady, hooning around the paddocks with her stable mates and holding her ground at feed times. Ky-Ean Bar Money has just covered Takima; they are anticipating a coloured foal from the pair.

Comet’s Story

Comet a miniature pony, was attacked by a pack of dogs, a vet was called to attend. I was called in a few days later. I found Comet a 3 year old colt, in an unbelievable mess, I was warned, I just couldn’t believe the extend of the injuries, from his eye, head, top of his front-legs to hoofs, and the fact that this little pony was still alive. What struck me was the will of this little pony to live. If Comet wasn’t giving up on life, well the attending Vet and myself were going to give 110% to help him to recover.

I worked with Comet weekly, seeing improvement with his condition as I went; new tissue (like gladwrap) had covered all his injuries fairly quickly. Knowing that EMRT™ accelerates the healing, but actuary seeing it, blows me away.  I performed three treatments on Comet, and then met with the attending Vet to catch-up on Comet’s progress, I was told he was concerned as to the lack of circulation in Comet’s left- front leg. (You can’t have a pony with three legs, Comet had come this far, and we weren’t about to give up.) I saw Comet the next day; I worked a lot longer, paying extra attention to the left-front leg. Two days later, I caught-up with the Vet, he had a smile on his face, and told me Comet will make a pretty good recovery, the date was 24th December. (I felt this was the best Xmas present ever.)

Comet was later gelded, as the owners were not planning to bred, he is a much loved pet, joining his bigger stable mates in the paddocks.

(See before and after Photo’s. These photo’s the Before were taken during 2nd and 3rd treatment. The last photo the end result.)
